Description

The Trace Advanced ED 8x42mm brings Peak Design’s carry philosophy to our flagship field binocular. Slide Lite’s quick-adjust system allows strap length to be changed rapidly without removing the binocular. Carry it higher and tighter while moving, then loosen it when you stop to observe.

The foundation of the EDX Optical System is premium Japanese ED glass, in an APO design with dual ED elements in the objective and dual lanthanum elements in the eyepiece. The advantage becomes particularly apparent with a dark bird against a bright sky, fine branches against an overcast horizon, or white plumage in direct sunlight.

A bird moving beneath a dark canopy. Wildlife emerging from deep shadow. Detail across a shaded valley. With up to 94% light transmission, the remaining ambient light keeps working for you, while the nitrogen filled, waterproof magnesium alloy chassis, twist-up eyecups, internal focusing and WeatherShield hydrophobic lens coatings are ready for travel, rain and changing weather.

From the horizon to approximately 1.5 metres, the Trace Advanced ED 8x42 opens an entirely different world of observation. Butterflies. Dragonflies. Flowers. Reptiles. Insects. Plumage. For birders, close focus also means observing a subject that unexpectedly lands nearby without having to step backwards to achieve focus. A wider field. A clearer view. A better way to carry it.

FAQs

What are 8x42 binoculars best for?

The 8×42 format balances brightness, a wide view and easy handling. The Trace Advanced ED 8×42 adds a 9.1° field of view and approximately 1.5 metre close focus, making it a natural choice for birding, wildlife, marine viewing, nature observation and travel.

Can these binoculars focus on butterflies and flowers up close?

Yes. The minimum focus distance is approximately 1.5 metres, getting you remarkably close to your subject while maintaining a sharp, detailed view: butterflies, dragonflies, flowers, reptiles, insects and fine plumage detail, and letting you observe a bird that unexpectedly lands nearby without stepping backwards.

How does the Peak Design strap system work?

Compact Anchors stay attached to the binocular and click into the custom Slide Lite strap in seconds. Wear it around your neck or cross-body, shorten it while hiking, extend it when you stop to observe, or detach it for tripod use.

Will these binoculars handle rain and sea spray?

Yes. The Trace Advanced ED 8×42 is IPX7 waterproof and nitrogen filled to resist internal fogging, with WeatherShield hydrophobic lens coatings that cause moisture to bead and roll away from the lens surface, and a lightweight magnesium alloy chassis suited to coastal, wet-weather and fast-changing outdoor conditions.

Is the warranty transferable if I sell the binoculars?

Yes. ZeroTech’s Triple-A Lifetime Warranty is fully transferable: any owner, any problem, always covered. It provides lifetime replacement or repair regardless of fault, for the life of the product.

Are the ZeroTech Trace Advanced ED 8x42 binoculars good for birdwatching?

Yes. The ZeroTech Trace Advanced ED 8×42 binoculars deliver a 9.1° field of view, approximately 159 metres at 1,000 metres, for finding and following fast-moving birds, with approximately 1.5 metre close focus for subjects that land nearby and up to 94% light transmission for dawn, dusk and dark canopy viewing.

What is the EDX Optical System in the ZeroTech Trace Advanced ED 8x42 binoculars?

The EDX Optical System in the ZeroTech Trace Advanced ED 8×42 binoculars is ZeroTech’s most advanced binocular optical system, combining HOYA Japan ED glass, advanced broadband lens coatings and phase-corrected, dielectric-coated prisms in an APO design, with dual ED elements in the objective and dual lanthanum elements in the eyepiece, maximising clarity, contrast and colour fidelity.

Can the strap on the ZeroTech Trace Advanced ED 8x42 binoculars be adjusted while wearing it?

Yes. The ZeroTech Trace Advanced ED 8×42 binoculars include a custom Peak Design Slide Lite whose quick-adjust system changes strap length rapidly without removing the binocular. Carry it higher and tighter while moving, loosen it when you stop to observe, and detach it in seconds via the Anchor quick-connects for tripod use.

Are the ZeroTech Trace Advanced ED 8x42 binoculars waterproof for marine use?

Yes. The ZeroTech Trace Advanced ED 8×42 binoculars are IPX7 waterproof and nitrogen filled, resisting internal fogging in humid, wet and coastal conditions. The lightweight magnesium alloy chassis, twist-up eyecups and internal focusing are built for spray, rain and travel between changing environments. WeatherShield hydrophobic lens coatings help maintain a clear view in rain, mist and wet conditions while making the lenses easier to clean.

Why does ED glass matter in the ZeroTech Trace Advanced ED 8x42 binoculars?

In the ZeroTech Trace Advanced ED 8×42 binoculars, premium Japanese Extra-low Dispersion glass provides exceptional control over different wavelengths of light, reducing unwanted colour dispersion around high-contrast subjects such as a dark bird against a bright sky, fine branches on an overcast horizon or white plumage in direct sunlight, keeping edges clean and colours natural.
